Uncle Harry seemed to understand and mesh with America the best of any of the boys. Maybe that was because he was born in this country (during a visit by his parents) though he was raised in Sweden. I believe he was even a councilman in Sea Bright and think he was the original "Harry" of Harry's Lobster House, a restaurant of some renown at one time. A regular pillar of the community.

I used to stay at Aunt Bridie's (who was from Ireland) in the summer once in a while during the early 50's, like a vacation. A feisty woman, it was easy to get a rise out of her. I seemed to have a real talent for finding her triggers. Someone (probably Uncle Einor) once told me to say "To hell with the Pope!". A good Irish Catholic (aren't they all), it was guaranteed to get some action. Robert (who was pretty talented along those lines too.) and I used to take particular delight in bedeviling her.

I remember 8 Beach Street as more of a clubhouse than a regular home with Bridie as the reigning chief. All the friends of Betty and Tommy (and they had plenty), as well more than a few of Aunt Bridie's cronies, were in and out all the time. I was there either during, or right after, when a neighbor's son, Bobby Letson, fell in the river and drowned. The whole town was in mourning and cast a real pall over that visit. It was my first experience with death and I guess I didn't really understand it. She heard Robert and I discussing how we were going to ask Mrs. Letson for Bobby's baseball glove and some other stuff. BOY did we catch hell. If we didn't understand dying, at least we WOULD understand it wasn't something we were gonna gain from.

Bridie finally lived the longest of the old gang. Your mother and I happened to stop up to see her only a few weeks before she died (think she was in her 80's, SHE would never tell), and she was still sneaking cigarettes when Betty wasn't around.

They had two children - Tommy & Betty.

(to the best of my recollection) on the left.}
